The Dominican Republic

Discovered in 1492 by Christopher Columbus, the island of Hispaniola is the second largest of the Antilles, after Cuba.

It is located in the Caribbean Sea and is divided into two states: The Dominican Republic to the East, and Haiti to the West.

Until the 80s, sugar cane was the country’s main economic resource, but international economic crises and internal political conflicts have only increased external debts.

Today, the Dominican Republic is concentrating on tourism, hoping it will remain its primary source of income.
